Centenary Ladies Take Part in Ole Miss Tournament

OXFORD, MS.—The Centenary Ladies had a disappointing season opener at the Ole Miss Fall Tennis Classic on Friday afternoon. The Ladies struggled in singles play producing only one win in the opening round.

Sophomore Christine Majchrowicz lost a difficult match against USM freshman Kim Lennartsson. Majchrowicz was defeated in the first set 6-3, but stayed alive winning the second set 7-5 to force the tie-breaker. Lennartsson seized the third set 6-2 to win the match. Centenary’s only doubles team of Anja Schmidt and Heather Kelley fell to Ilona Somers and Mimi Renaudin of Ole Miss 8-4.

Playing in the singles consolation, Kelley was unable to defeat Nikhila Narra of Southern Mississippi in two sets 6-0, 6-1. While her doubles partner captured her first win of the season over Marina Tasheva of TTU in three sets 6-2, 3-6,7-5.

The Ladies will travel to Nacogdoches, Tex., on October 2nd to take part in the two-day Stephen F. Austin Invitational.
