Prairie View, TX—The Centenary volleyball team split the first day of action in the Prairie View A&M Lady Panther Invitational, defeating Texas Southern 30-23, 30-20, 30-24 before falling to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 30-17, 30-28, 30-20 in back-to-back matches. The Ladies (2-10) face Arkansas-Pine Bluff and host team Prairie View A&M Saturday in the round-robin tournament.

The Ladies began the day with a three-game victory over Texas Southern in their first match despite using only 7 players. Sophomore Ashley Templer led Centenary with 16 kills while junior Tracee Byrd added 15 kills of her own. Freshman Lindsay Bekelja led all players with 43 assists.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi came out strong and overpowered a winded Centenary squad, depleted by injuries in the second match. The Ladies never seemed to get into a groove as the Islanders took the first game 30-17. Centenary regained their composure in the second game, pushing it to the limit before falling 30-28 while dropping the final game 30–20. Templer once again led Centenary with eight kills while Bekelja added another 19 assists on the day.
