Ladies Sweep Second Day of PVAM Tourney, Finish Second

PRAIRIE VIEW, TX – Centenary volleyball swept the second day of action in the Prairie View A&M Invitational, finishing second in the round-robin tournament. The Ladies defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 30-20, 30-15, 30-16 before topping host Prairie View 30-28, 28-30, 30-26, 30-21. The wins move Centenary to 4-10 on the season.

The Ladies started their day off strong, overpowering the Golden Lionettes and winning in straight games. Arkansas-Pine Bluff started the match on an even keel before Centenary took control and never looked back. Junior Tracee Byrd led all players with 10 kills, while freshman Emily Longerot added another eight. Sophomore Holli Wilkins played especially well in her first weekend of play with the Ladies. She was among the leaders in most statistical categories against the Golden Lionettes including kills (six), aces (two), digs (four), and blocks (two).

Prairie View proved to be more of a challenge, pushing the Ladies to four games. Centenary took the first game 30-28 before the Panthers came back and won the second game 28-30. The Ladies responded in turn and closed the match out in four. Three Centenary players recorded double-digit kills; Byrd (14), Shayla Andreas (13), and Longerot (11) while freshman Lindsay Bekelja led all players with 23 assists.

Byrd represented Centenary by being voted to the all-tournament team. She totaled 44 kills, seven aces, and seven blocks through the four matches. This was the third consecutive tournament she has made an all-tournament team, earning honors in New Orleans and Sam Houston State.
