Centenary Runners Host Red River Classic

SHREVEPORT—The Centenary men’s and women’s cross country teams hosted their only home event of the 2004 season on Thursday when Grambling and Louisiana Tech came to town to participate in the Red River Classic. The Grambling Tigers proved to be the team to beat as both the men’s and the women’s teams from GSU took home victories.

            In the women’s three mile race, Grambling’s Hamiyda Sapio finished first with a time of 19:50 while Centenary’s Holly Richardson finished second in 20:15. The Tigers captured five of the top seven slots to win the meet with a score of 20 points. Lori Von Pingel gave the Ladies a sixth place effort to help secure second place in the team competition. Jennifer Bouso, Taylor Robertson, and Halley Grantham finished eighth, tenth, and 14th to round out the top five for Centenary. Louisiana Tech finished third.

            On the men’s side, Grambling took the top five spots led by Feedly Bonneau’s time of 21:52 in the four mile race. Steven Deas posted Centenary’s best finish in seventh place with a time of 26:02. Andrew Deas (9th), David Reiland (11th), Jeff Stotts (12th), and Paul Marrow (13th) rounded out the Gents’ top five. Overall, Grambling defeated Centenary 15 to 40.
