Valpo vs. Centenary Box Score

Shreveport—After jumping to an early lead, the Centenary women’s soccer team held off visiting Valparaiso (3-5-1, 0-2) for their second win in the Mid-Continent Conference. The win moves the Ladies to 2-1 and second place in conference play, momentarily separating them from a logjam of 1-1 teams.

The Ladies managed only two shots on goal in the match, but their first was all they needed as sophomore Rebecca Swilley scored in the 16th minute. Senior Kylie Garrett started the play off with a cross to Swilley, who slipped past the defense and found herself one-on-one with the Crusaders’ goaltender. After a bit of fancy footwork, she lofted the ball over the keeper’s head, just past a diving Valparaiso defender. The goal was Swilley’s third game-winner of the season.

Ladies keeper Lindsey Stafford picked up her fifth shutout of the year, hauling in five saves in the process. She has given up only 10 goals in as many matches this season.

Centenary (7-3-1, 2-1) hosts Arkansas-Little Rock in the third of their six-match homestand, Sunday, October 3, at 1:00 pm at Mayo Field. The Ladies suffered a 3-1 defeat to the Trojans last season.
