Shreveport—The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles flew by the Centenary Ladies in Mid-Continent Conference volleyball action at the Gold Dome on Saturday afternoon. The preseason favorite Golden Eagles got off to a slow start, but took advantage of a key Centenary injury to down the Ladies 3-0.

Centenary (5-15, 0-3 Mid-Con) looked sharp in the early going, catching Oral Roberts off guard. However, midway through the opening game, freshman Emily Longerot suffered an injury as a result of an ORU player landing under the net after an attack. Longerot would leave the match and not return. The misfortune left the Ladies with exactly six players and no substitutes en route to a 30-22 game one loss.

Oral Roberts (9-9, 2-1 Mid-Con) exposed Centenary’s lack of depth and easily pulled away with wins of 30-18 and 30-14 in the final two games. Ori Zuzic proved to be the Golden Eagles biggest weapon against the Ladies as she compiled a match-high 16 kills on 25 attempts resulting in a .640 hitting percentage. Brittany Arnold also enjoyed an outstanding match as she finished with seven kills on nine attempts to go with 25 assists and three service aces.

For Centenary, Tracee Byrd recorded seven kills without committing an error to finish with a .500 hitting percentage. Ashley Templer also tallied seven kills, but struggled a bit with her swing to end the day with nine errors. Lindsay Bekelja dished out 20 assists in the loss.

The Ladies will next travel to face Louisiana-Monroe on Tuesday at 7 pm before returning home to host Western Illinois and UMKC in back-to-back Mid-Con matches on Friday and Saturday.
