Monday, October 4, 2004

SHREVEPORT- The Centenary Ladies softball team continues to excel, academically and athletically, ranking 25th in the 2004 Division I GPA poll and going undefeated in their first showing of the of the season.

The Ladies’ dedication and determination used to win the 2004 Mid-Con conference title expanded into their academic domain posting a 3.27 combined average. Centenary ended the season 36-28 with a roster that featured six freshmen.

Losing eight seniors has not fazed the Ladies, as they have beaten all three teams they faced over the weekend in their first home fall ball tournament.  Centenary overtook Texas Wesleyan 5-3 with the help of sophomore Megan Hall’s 3-run dinger in the seventh. Later in the afternoon, Centenary defeated Henderson State 6-4 and overpowered Louisiana-Monroe 11-3 courtesy of Hall’s and sophomore Dana Davis’ dominating offense. Pitchers Jessica Ivins and Kristan Morton were also impressive in their first collegiate appearances.

The Ladies enter the 2005 campaign with great anticipation, returning nine players while bringing in seven talented freshmen.

Centenary continues their fall schedule on Saturday Oct. 9 hosting their second tournament at the Centenary Softball Complex.  Louisiana Tech., Bossier Parish Community College, and Grambling State will be participating in the tournament.
