Centenary Freshmen Swimmers Shine at TCU Meet

FORT WORTH, Tex.- The Centenary swim team jump-started their season Wednesday afternoon in a double dual meet battling Texas Christian and McMurry at the University Recreation Center. The Gents overpowered the Indians 68-25, but came up short against TCU 46.5-37.5. The Ladies were unable to pull out a win falling to McMurry 42-30 and TCU 44-30.


Centenary’s exceptional freshmen were impressive in their collegiate debut posting eight second place finishes.


Freshman Ross Gilbert led the Gents earning second place in the 200-free (1:51.71) and nabbing third place in the 500-free (5:02.58). The Gents seized three 2-3 finishes in the 200-free, 500-free, and 100-back. Also grabbing runner up finishes were Dustin Myers (100-free), Robert Hendricks (500-free), Jonathon Harrop (100-fly), Kyle McKee (100-breast), Robert Trempski (100-back), Roddie Haley (50-free) and Traci Wimberley (100 Back).


The Gents 200-free relay team of Meyers, Haley, Adam D’Aquin, and Devin Rourke also placed second with a time of 1:30.02 while the Ladies 200-medley relay of Wimberley, Lori Von Pingle, Kayli LeBlanc, and Sara Hansen took third place touching the wall at 1:58.21.


Centenary returns home to host their first meet on Saturday against Louisiana Monroe at the Haynes Fitness Center. The meet will begin at 11:00 a.m.
