SHREVEPORT—The Centenary volleyball team played hard but lost their fourth consecutive Mid-Con match this season as Western Illinois disposed of the Ladies 30-13, 30-15, 30-19. With the loss, Centenary moved to 0-4 in conference play.

Western Illinois (7-11, 4-1 Mid-Con) came out of the gate strong, hitting at a .619 clip in the opening game. The Westerwinds racked up 13 kills on 21 attempts without committing an error to sail to the 1-0 lead.

Centenary (5-17, 0-4 Mid-Con), still recovering from a rash of injuries, won several long rallies in the second game but could not string together points in order to gain momentum. Although the Ladies managed to control the Western Illinois offensive attack the rest of the way, they could not take advantage as they recorded a hitting percentage below zero in the final two games.

Ashley Templer collected her fifth double double in six matches as she finished with 11 kills and 12 digs to lead Centenary. Lindsay Bekelja also accomplished the feat with 26 assists to go along with her 11 digs. Catey Batte tallied 10 digs despite playing injured in the contest.

Western Illinois did not have a player reach double figures in kills as they successfully spread around their offensive to keep the Ladies moving. Amanda Barnard recorded a team-high nine kills in the victory while Jennifer Alexander compiled 20 digs. The Westerwinds used their size to block 15 Centenary attempts while the Ladies finished with one team block for the match.

The Ladies will return to the Gold Dome tomorrow where they host UMKC at 7 p.m. in another Mid-Con match. UMKC (3-14, 1-4 Mid-Con) fell 3-0 to Oral Roberts on Friday evening.
