Ladies Come Up Empty at ITA Regional Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Tex. – The Centenary Ladies had an upsetting first two days of competition at the Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional Women’s Tennis Championships hosted by Texas A&M.


Sophomore Christine Majchrowcz was unable to win a set in her first two matches falling to Lamar’s Tara Shelander and UTSA’s Paula Erausquin 6-0, 6-0.  Majchrowcz tried to regroup early Saturday morning and just missed pulling out a win, falling to UTPA’s Silke Buksik 6-3, 6-7, 10-8. 


Junior Anja Schmidt also struggled, as her six-match winning streak was broken Saturday afternoon by Tulane’s Dorottya Magas in three sets 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.  Schmidt will compete Sunday morning in the consolation bracket against LSU’s Marina Chiarelli.


In doubles action, Schmidt and Heather Kelley were defeated in the first round by Seva Iwinski and Anna Blagodarova of A&M, 8-3. The duo received a bye in the first round of doubles consolation and will play Sunday afternoon at 3:30.
