Sunday, October 17, 2004

DEKALB, Ill. – The Centenary women’s soccer surpassed their win total from the 2003 campaign, shutting out Northern Illinois 1-0 for their 11th win of the season.  The Ladies (11-4-1, 3-2) remain undefeated in the Land of Lincoln this year, coming off a 3-2 overtime victory over Mid-Continent Conference foe Western Illinois.

Although Northern Illinois (6-4-5) outshot the Ladies 13-5, Centenary only needed one score to put the Huskies away.  Freshman Rachel Alexander provided the game-winning goal in the 35th minute, heading the ball home off a Sara Thompson free kick.  Junior goalkeeper Lindsey Stafford recorded her seventh shutout of the year, collecting four saves in the contest.

Centenary returns home for their final Mid-Con match when they face IUPUI, Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Mayo Field.
