Ladies Clinch Mid-Con Postseason Tournament Bid
Friday, October 22, 2004

SHREVEPORT – The Centenary women’s soccer team clinched their second consecutive Mid-Continent Conference playoff appearance by defeating IUPUI 2-1.  Both sides played extremely aggressive, knowing that a win by either team would guarantee a postseason appearance, as five cautions were handed out on the night.

The Ladies put themselves on the board as the first half was winding down, scoring in the 43rd minute.  Bre Fletcher notched the initial score as Ashley Bouillion redirected a corner from Mindi Levinski to the freshman at the top of the box.  Centenary (12-4-1, 4-2) entered halftime with a five shot advantage and lopsided 6-0 on corners.

Leading scorer Tara Sageser added another goal at the 57:20 mark, collecting a pass from Levinski and blasting it past the keeper.  Sageser’s goal was her fifth game-winner of the season, increasing her total to 10 on the year.

IUPUI (9-5-0, 3-2) kept up their intensity, responding with a goal of their own just over five minutes later.  Sarah Leonard took advantage of the confusion of an overcrowded Ladies defense on a corner kick, and pushed the ball past keeper Lindsey Stafford, who otherwise collected nine saves in the match.

The Ladies finish their second season of Mid-Con play with a 4-2 league record and a trip to Rochester, Michigan on November 5th for the conference tournament.  They round out their regular season schedule with non-conference opponents Southern Mississippi and McNeese State.
