SHREVEPORT—The Centenary Ladies volleyball team lost Friday night to Mid-Continent Conference leader Valparaiso in the Gold Dome 30-16, 30-19, 30-16. The win extended the Crusader’s league winning streak to eight games and pushed their overall record to 19-3 (8-0 Mid-Con) on the season.

Valparaiso jumped out to a quick advantage in game one behind a balanced offensive attack and a swarming defense. Lauren Moulton recorded three kills without an error while five other players notched two kills for the Crusaders. Defensively, Sara Silcox managed six digs in the opening game and two others tallied five digs in the 30-16 win.

Centenary (6-21, 0-8 Mid-Con) grabbed an early lead in game two at 5-3 on an Emily Longerot kill. The two teams battled back and forth with the Ladies pulling even at 15-15 on a piercing shot from Ashley Templer that found open court. However, Jessie Fox supplied the answer for Valparaiso as her kill gave the visitors a 19-16 lead that they would never relinquish in winning 30-19.

The Crusaders did not wait as long to deliver the final blow in game three after Centenary shot out to a 5-4 lead. Three points later, with Valpo holding a 7-5 edge, Alex Chism fired a pair of service aces that gave her team a four-point margin that the Ladies would not recover from in losing 30-16.

Emily Longerot of Centenary and Lauren Molton of Valpo each finished with nine kills in the contest. Ashley Templer notched eight kills for the Ladies while Lindsay Bekelja added 11 digs to go with her 24 assists. Catey Batte pitched in with 10 digs for the home team while Tiffany Meikle contributed 15 digs to the Valparaiso victory.

Centenary will host Oakland in the final game of their three-game homestand on Saturday at 7 pm in the Gold Dome.
