SHREVEPORT--The Centenary Ladies volleyball team fell in straight games to Mid-Con foe Oakland University 30-24, 30-25, 30-22 on Saturday night in the Gold Dome. The size of the Golden Grizzlies front line proved to be too much as they combined for 12 and a half team blocks compared to three for the Ladies.

Centenary (6-22, 0-9 Mid-Con) hit at a .196 clip in game one, the best percentage they would manage in the match, but Oakland one-upped the Ladies with a .263 kill percentage. That would be the story all evening as Centenary rallied only to have the Golden Grizzlies answer the call each time.

Oakland (4-17, 2-7 Mid-Con) took both of the first two games but let the Ladies climb back into the contest in game three. Trailing 4-1 in the opening minutes, Centenary strung together eight consecutive points to take the lead at 9-4 behind three kills by Tracee Byrd. However, Oakland battled back to go ahead 10-9 on a Centenary attack error and added a kill by Karen Conger that would put the game away as the Ladies would never regain the lead.

Kelley Heckman led the Ladies with 10 kills while adding 14 digs in the match. Catey Batte led all players with 16 digs and Lindsey Bekelja tallied 36 assists in the loss for Centenary.
