SHREVEPORT—The fans in the Gold Dome got their first look at some new faces on the Centenary Gents basketball team Friday night as Ouachita Baptist downed the host team 65-58. The 2004-05 Gents feature nine new players and all but two received playing time in the only exhibition for Centenary this season.

Despite shooting just 26.7 percent from the field in the first half, Ouachita Baptist carried a 28-24 advantage into the locker room at the intermission. Centenary outscored the Tigers 10-5 over the first three minutes of the second half to take the lead at 34-33. The run was capped by a made shot by Jarmorrow Moragne and a good free throw to complete a three-point play after being fouled. However, the Gents would relinquish their lead quickly as Kennis Green nailed a three-pointer to put OBU ahead 36-34. The Tigers held off Centenary the rest of the game to hold on for the preseason victory.

Newcomer Curtis Tillman pumped in a game-high 20 points for Centenary although he struggled a bit from the field. In his Division I debut, the junior-transfer converted on only four of his 17 shot attempts but managed to get to the free throw line where he was 10-of-16 for the evening. Senior Jarmorrow Moragne added 14 points and nine rebounds from his guard position and freshman Tyrone Hamilton contributed 11 points in his collegiate debut. Senior Chad Maclies played only 17 minutes due to his early foul trouble but still picked up seven points and eight rebounds in the loss.

Ouachita Baptist emerged victorious from the foul-layden game that featured 53 personal fouls and three players that fouled out. Green led the Tigers with 16 points while Travis Williams added 15 points. Kevin White proved to be a force underneath for OBU has he pulled down 11 boards to go with his 13 points to record the double double. David Mercer rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 points on the night.

The Gents will return to action on Saturday, November 20, when they travel to take on Arkansas State at 4:05 pm. That game, as well as all Centenary Gents basketball games, can be heard on KOKA 980 AM and over the internet at SportsJuice.com.
