SHREVEPORT—Centenary cross country coach Shelley Armstrong has announced the signing of Michael Haydel to a National Letter of Intent. Haydel is considered one of the top male runners in the state of Louisiana and is the first signee for the Gents during the current recruiting period.

Haydel, a native of Bossier City, La., and Parkway High School, finished second in the Louisiana State Meet on November 16th with a time of 16:36 for the three mile race. He is an All-City and All-Area track performer for his efforts in the 3200m event. He placed fourth at the Louisiana State Track Championships, was named the 2004 Male Track Outstanding Performer, and was an All-District cross country selection in 2002.

“Michael is one of the top recruits in the state,” said Armstrong. “His talent and dedication will have a huge impact on the direction of our program. I’m excited for him to join us and I feel that his abilities will have a synergistic effect over the next four years.”
