LAFAYETTE, La.- Two Centenary Ladies scored in double-figures in women’s basketball action on Wednesday night, but it wasn’t enough as Louisiana Lafayette defeated the shorthanded Ladies 67-42 at the Earl K. Long Gym.

Both teams struggled early from the floor with Centenary (1-4) scoring first, after four minutes of play. The Ladies found their rhythm, leading by as many as five points, 10-15, with eight minutes left in the first. The Cajuns (4-1) chipped away at the lead, knotting the score at 18-18 at the 5:07 mark.

The Cajuns continued their offensive attack as Tiffany Washington connected on a three-pointer giving UL Lafayette a 26-21 lead. Junior Laura Kizyte answered back with a jumper at the bottom of the key with eight seconds left, leading the Ladies into the locker room with a three-point deficit.

Down 23-26 heading into the second half, the Ladies were unable to control the advancing Cajuns as they used a second-half run to increase their point margin.

Centenary was able to stay within striking distance, courtesy of lead scorer, Jelena Aleksic. With a little more than 11 minutes to play, the six-foot sophomore cut the lead to 42-35, when she drove the lane and hit a jumper. Unfortunately, a series of three pointers allowed the Cajuns to increase their lead to 53-35 at the 7:01 mark. UL Lafayette kept its lead in double-digits for the rest of the game.

Aleksic had season high of 14 points and four rebounds, while Kizyte had 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds.

The Ladies will travel to Huntsville, Texas on Saturday to take on Sam Houston at the Johnson Coliseum. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
