Volleyball's Bekelja Earns LSWA Honor
Tuesday, December 21, 2004

BATON ROUGE—Centenary volleyball player Lindsay Bekelja has been named to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s All-Louisiana Second Team. The honor is the second postseason award for the freshman setter after being selected to the Mid-Continent Conference All-Freshman Team in November.

Bekelja (League City, Texas) became the first Ladies volleyball player to be named to a Mid-Con all-conference team since Centenary joined the league for play in 2003. She made an immediate impact with the Ladies in her debut season, recording 1,150 assists to break the Centenary single-season record. Amazingly, that total already places her third on the all-time career assist list, a mark (1,405) she should surpass within the first third of the 2005 campaign.

Bekelja also set a new school record for most assists in a match with 58 against Grambling State after recording 57 assists just days before to tie the previous mark. For the season, she finished with a 9.35 assist per game average to go along with 30 service aces and 248 digs.
