Kansas City, Mo. – The Centenary women’s basketball team dropped their eleventh consecutive game, falling to Mid-Continent Conference foe UMKC 62-55.  Sophomore Jelena Aleksic recorded her second consecutive double-double, but it wasn’t enough to earn the Ladies their first conference road victory since joining the Mid-Con in the 2003-04 season.

Centenary (1-12, 0-3 Mid-Con) stayed strong with UMKC (5-8, 2-1 Mid-Con) and entered the half down five.  Both teams shot poorly, hitting just under 30 percent from the floor, but the Kangaroos took the advantage by hitting 4-of-10 shots from behind the arc compared to the Ladies 2-of-12.

The Ladies trailed by as many as 11 in the second frame but Laura Kizyte’s jumper pulled Centenary within three with 12 minutes remaining.  UMKC wouldn’t let the lead slip past three, however, as they earned their second Mid-Con win of the year..

Kizyte and Holli Wilkins each scored 18 for the Ladies, joining Aleksic in double-digit points.  Kizyte nabbed five steals while Wilkins pulled down six rebounds.

UMKC’s Katie Houlehan led all scorers with 22, connecting on six of 11 shots from downtown.  She was joined in double-figures for the Kangaroos by Liz Orbecht and Jowan Ortega with 15 and 11 respectively.

Despite the loss, Centenary outrebounded their opponent for the second consecutive game.  Aleksic’s 10 led all rebounders while the Ladies grabbed 39 shots off the glass compared to UMKC’s 37.

The Ladies continue their stint away from the Gold Dome as they face Oral Roberts on Saturday, January 15.  The Ladies dropped both contests to the Golden Eagles last season, including a 68-67 loss in Tulsa.  Tip-off is set for 2:05 p.m.
