Chad Maclies

The Centenary community is saddened and mourns the death of  beloved student Chad Maclies.  He was pronounced dead in his room in Cline Hall at approximately 11 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3rd. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Maclies family.

Chad was from Kingwood, Texas, a senior with a double major in math and physics and a minor in computer science, and was a Dean's List student.  He planned to become a computer analyst following graduation next fall.  A star basketball player, he was a leader of the Gents in many ways, including points and rebounds per game this year.  Just a few days ago, he received the Athletic Achievement Award at Honors Convocation and previously he had earned All-Louisiana and All-Conference honors.

In many ways, both on and off the court, Chad was a leader with a big heart, a disarming smile and a can-do spirit.  He was a superb young man, a model student-athlete and an integral part of the Centenary family.  He will be greatly missed on our campus.

There was no indication of foul play and the cause of death will be determined by the coroner's office.

A Memorial Service has been planned for Friday, May 6th, at 11 am in Brown Chapel on the Centenary campus.  Please join with me in prayers and condolences for Chad, his parents and sister, and his many, many friends on our campus and beyond.
