ELMHURST, Ill – Centenary baseball Head Coach Ed McCann has been selected as the Mid-Continent Conference’s Coach of the Year, as voted by the coaches from participating schools.  Senior shortstop David Kiefer and sophomore pitcher David McElroy also took home Second Team All-Mid-Con honors.

McCann led the Gents to a 25-28, 12-12 in conference, overall record and the team’s second consecutive trip to the Mid-Con tournament.  In his seventh year at the helm, he also captained Centenary to the school’s first victory over in-state powerhouse LSU, 6-1, since 1956, a span of 22 games.

Kiefer earned second team honors after leading the Mid-Con in doubles (tied with 20), triples (tied with 6), RBI (51), Slugging Percentage (.591), and On Base Percentage (.477).  He finished second in Batting Average (.378), runs scored (55), and hits (73).  Kiefer was named Mid-Con Player of the Week twice and was also tabbed as the Mid-Con Men’s Athlete of the Month for April.

McElroy made an immediate impact in his first season at Centenary, pacing the Gents with a 7-2 record and a 3.84 ERA.  McElroy led the Maroon and White in games started (11) and innings pitched (70.1).  He also tossed three complete games, tied for the Gents’ only shutout of the year, and was the winning pitcher in the postseason clinching victory over Valparaiso.  McElroy was also named Mid-Con Pitcher of the Week once this season.
