TULSA, Okla – The Centenary baseball team dropped its first game of the Mid-Continent Conference Tournament against top-seeded Oral Roberts, 6-1.  The Gents became the first conference team to score an earned run on Mid-Con Pitcher and Co-Player of the Year, Dennis Bigley, this season.

Bigley entered the contest with a 41.1 inning streak without giving up an unearned run in Mid-Con play this season.  With two down and a man on first, back-to-back singles by A.J. Howes and J.C. Biagi in the fifth spoiled Bigley’s record, scoring Justin Darr.

Oral Roberts (37-18) plated two runs in the first inning without collecting a hit, reaching on a leadoff walk followed by a sacrifice bunt off of starting pitcher Matt Clark (2-4).  Walking the next batter, a possible double play ball turned error loaded the bases as Clark threw his third walk of inning for a 1-0 ORU lead.  The Golden Eagles scored their second run on a fielder’s choice when Centenary (25-29) couldn’t pull of a double play.

Clark lasted 3.1 innings, surrendering five runs (only two earned) on five hits, three walks, and a hit batsman.  He struck out three Golden Eagles on the night.

The Golden Eagles added three more runs in the fourth, forcing a Centenary pitching change to Kris Calhoun.  The junior reliever finished the final 4.2 innings, allowing one run in the fifth while fanning five.

Centenary will play Western Illinois on Friday, May 27, at noon.  The second seeded Leathernecks fell to Southern Utah in the tournament opener.  Will Kaage (7-3) will take the mound for Centenary, the Gents leader in wins (4), complete games (4), innings pitched (37.2), strikeouts (17), and opponent batting average (.261) in Mid-Con play.
