BATON ROUGE, La.—Freshman Jennifer Mango and sophomore Micah Rhodes were selected to the 2005 All-Louisiana softball team by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. Both players picked up second team accolades while Mango was also honored as the Freshman of the Year. Mango and Rhodes played key roles in helping Centenary to a 31-28 record and the Ladies second consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Mango, from Sugarland, Tex., led the Ladies in batting average and hits in her debut season. She finished with a .325 mark while collecting 53 hits in 163 at bats. The part-time shortstop and third baseman was named to the LSWA second team at the utility position in addition to being tabbed Freshman of the Year. Mango was also voted to the All-Mid-Continent Conference first team by coaches in the league.

Mango placed second on the Ladies’ team with 28 RBI, third with 27 runs, and fourth with four homers. She locked up a spot on the Mid-Con All-Tournament Team with a grand slam in the tournament championship game and hit safely in 13 of her last 15 regular season games.

A sophomore from Grapevine, Tex., Rhodes was a second team All-Louisiana selection in the outfield. She led Centenary with eight home runs and 35 RBI while hitting at a .311 clip. Her 13 doubles and 51 hits were second on the team while she topped all Ladies with 88 total bases.

Rhodes was also a first team All-Mid-Con selection in the outfield for the second straight season. She displayed her power in two of the biggest games of the year as her two-run walk-off blast ended the Mid-Con title game and her mammoth shot against McNeese State in the NCAA Regional brought the Ladies within one run.

The LSWA All-Louisiana softball team is voted on by members of the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. Softball playing college institutions in the state of Louisiana send in nominees for the team via their sports information directors.
