Shreveport—The Centenary women’s soccer team has been picked third in the Mid-Continent Conference’s preseason poll, finishing behind 2003 champion Oakland (six first place votes) and Oral Roberts (one vote). The poll is rounded out by Valparaiso, IUPUI and Western Illinois (tie), and Southern Utah.

In 2003, Centenary’s first year in the Mid-Con, the Ladies posted a 10-7-3 record, including a conference mark of 3-2-1. Their record earned them a spot in the conference postseason tournament, tying Oral Roberts in regulation before losing in penalty kicks, eliminating them from title contention.

First-year coach Chase Wooten expects another solid year from the Ladies, including first-team all-league midfielder Mindi Levinski. She commanded the offense with eight goals, and led the Mid-Con with 11 assists and 27 points. Levinski currently ranks third on Centenary’s all-time list for assists.

The top four finishers in the final regular-season standings are eligible for competition in the 2004 Mid-Con Women’s Soccer Tournament held on November 5 and 7. The winner of that event is granted the league’s automatic berth to the NCAA Women’s Soccer College Cup.
