Ladies Swimming Splits, as Gents Fall at Home

SHREVEPORT- The Ladies swim team split their final double dual meet of the season against Ouachita Baptist and Arkansas-Little Rock on Saturday afternoon at the Centenary Fitness Center. The Ladies skimmed past UALR, 60-58, but fell 96-25 to OBU, ranked second in NCAA Division II.  The Gents were also unable to overcome OBU’s talented distance swimmers, dropping the meet 176-82.

 

On the women’s side, freshman Sara Hansen led the squad, winning top honors in the 200 IM, touching at 2:19.72.  She also nabbed runner-up in the 200 free (2:03.68) and third in the 200 fly (2:21.44).

 

Team captain Kayli LeBlanc and Lori Von Pingel had impressive swims in the 1000 free (2:03.68) and 100 free (57.71) respectively.

 

LeBalnc, VonPingel, and Hansen also contributed to the 200 free relay’s second place time of 1:47.27.

 

The Gents were strong in the two backstroke races, taking two of the top three places in the 100 back. Robert Trempski picked up top honors in the 100 and narrowly missed nabbing his second straight sweep off the backstroke events, finishing second in the 200 back. Freshman Adam D’Aquin was third in 58.80, swimming in the 200 back and beat his season best time in the 50 free with 23.02.

 

Also garnering a first place finish was freshman Jonathan Harrop in the 200 free, out stretching OBU’s Rinaldo Sintjago in 1:47.20.

 

The Gents tallied five second-place finishes including Devin Rourke in the 100 breast (1:04.78), D’Aquin in the 50 free, Kyle McGee in the 200 breast (2:18.49) and Jacob Stevens in the 200 IM (2:05.16).

 

Centenary finishes its season on the road at the NSISC Championships on February 17th in Cleveland, Mississippi.
