Ladies Lose Game to Oral Roberts, Two Players to Injury
Monday, January 31, 2005

SHREVEPORT – The Centenary women’s basketball team looked to pick up their first Mid-Continent Conference win of the year and a little payback for an earlier defeat this season by visiting Oral Roberts.  Instead, the Ladies had two players sent to the hospital in a roughly contested loss, falling 87-48.

Freshmen Ricquel Crockrom and Laura Way were helped off the court bleeding in the second half and didn’t return to the game.  Whistles were few and far between compared to the aggressive defenses and multiple scrums for loose balls.  Centenary was forced to finish the game with only five players and no reserves.

Three Ladies scored in double-figures, led by Jelena Aleksic with 17.  Sophomore Holli Wilkins made her return to Mid-Con action after missing two weeks with a wrist injury, scoring 13 including shooting three-of-six from three-point range.  Laura Kizyte joined in with 10 points of her own and five rebounds.

Claudia Louis and Katie Langford paced the Golden Eagles with 20 points each while Louis added a game-high 13 rebounds.  Elisha Turek, the Mid-Con’s leader in both scoring and rebounding, finished with 16 and five respectively.

Down 14 at the half, the Ladies came out of the locker room primed, shooting 75 percent from the floor through the first five minutes before Way was struck in the nose beneath her own basket.  The Golden Eagles proceeded to go on an 11-2 run before Crockrom was injured wrestling for a loose ball at the 11:51 mark.  ORU outscored Centenary 20-9 the rest of the game.

The Ladies next travel to Valparaiso as part of an extended Mid-Con road trip on Saturday, February 5.  The Crusaders handed Centenary their first conference loss of the year 79-56 earlier this season.  The game is part of a double header with the Gents.  Tip off is set for 2:05 p.m.
