SHREVEPORT – Three UMKC players scored in double figures as the visiting Kangaroos outlasted a strong effort by the Centenary women’s basketball team, winning 55-41.

Sophomore Jelena Aleksic led the Ladies (1-20, 0-11 Mid-Con) with 15 points while nabbing a career-high five steals.  Laura Kizyte joined her in double-digit scoring with 13, adding five rebounds on the night.

UMKC jumped to an early 7-2 lead before Centenary charged back to knot the score at 11 at the 11:10 mark.  The two squads traded threes by the Kangaroos’ Katie Houlehan and Kizyte until Van’esha Brabson gave the Ladies their first lead of the night from downtown.

Both sides traded baskets until UMKC went on a 9-0, 90 second run, capped by back-to-back by threes by Houlehan.  Down six with just under four minutes left in the half, the Ladies battle back, evening the score at 29-29 on one of Brittany Barbee’s two three-pointers of the night.

The second half saw more back-and-forth action, starting with another 7-2 UMKC run, putting their lead to five.  The Ladies battled back to pull within one at the 8:47 mark before the Kangaroos finished the game on a 14-1 run to close out the victory.

Centenary travels to Southern Utah for a rematch against the Thunderbirds.  The Ladies fell 70-61 in the Gold Dome earlier this season.  Tip-off is set for 5:15 p.m. on Monday, February 14.
