LORMAN, Miss.- Due to a late start and fading daylight, the Ladies dual match against Alcorn State eliminated doubles play as Centenary suffered a close 4-2 loss to the Lady Braves on Wednesday at the Willie Mae Latham Taylor Park. Continuing their winning streaks in singles action, Anja Schmidt and Christine Majchrowicz paced the Ladies posting wins in the No.1 and No. 3 slots, respectively.

Majchrowicz (4-9) demolished Avernelle Holder in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 while fellow teammate Schimdt (12-3) took Swetha Devaraj, 6-4, 6-1, earning the Ladies’ two points.

The match came down to the second position with Heather Kelley battling ASU’s Nitya Miranda. Kelley had a strong start, nabbing the first set, 6-3, but the ASU sophomore knotted the series at one game apiece, winning the second set, 6-3. With the pressure of the team win resting on the final set, Kelley had a series of unfortunate rallies, falling 10-5 in the tiebreaker.

The Ladies (0-5) will next host Lamar on Feb. 18th at the Southern Hills tennis courts. The dual match will begin at 1:00 p.m.
