Centenary Softball Routs Grambling, 13-1

GRAMBLING, La. – Senior Janis Kelley stole the spotlight on Wednesday  afternoon during Centenary’s 13-1 win over Grambling at the Lady Tiger Field. The Keithville, La. native went 3-for-3, launching her fist homerun of the season in the top of the fourth and recorded three RBIs in the chilly matinee. Centenary’s stellar offensive performance improves the Ladies overall record to 4-8.


The Ladies got on the board in the top of the second when Dana Davis ripped a shot up the middle, scoring Kelley for the first run of the game.  Grambling knotted the score at 1-1 in their next rotation, forcing the Ladies to step up their offensive intensity.


Centenary continued to push runs across the plate in the third and fourth innings before a power surge in the top of the sixth.


The Ladies used a five-run sixth inning to build an insurmountable lead, including RBI singles from Kelley, Jennifer Martin, and Jennifer Mango to put the Lady Tigers away, 13-1.


Newcomer Kristan Morton (2-5) recorded her second win of the season, working six innings allowing five hits and striking out six.


The Ladies (4-8) return to the field February 23rd traveling to Natchitoches, Louisiana to take on Northwestern State at 6:00 p.m.
