SHREVEPORT – The Centenary baseball team gave up a monster third inning while stranding 13 batters of base as Northern Iowa defeated the Gents 12-2 at Shehee Stadium.

With the score tied 1-1, Gents (2-3) starting pitcher Will Kaage (0-1) hit UNI’s first two batters of the third before giving up a double to drive both runners home.  The Panthers (2-1) would send 10 batters to the plate without recording an out until David McElroy closed out the inning, but not before scoring eight runs to take a 9-1 lead.

Tim Ryan continued to hit the ball well for the Gents, going 3-4 with an RBI while drawing a walk.  Ryan is hitting .526 on the season with a .625 on base percentage.

Also delivering strong performances for Centenary were David Kiefer and Jonathan Colgin, both of who had two hits on the day. Kiefer collected his first stolen base of the season after singling in the bottom of the first.  Colgin’s fourth double of the year drove in the senior shortstop to knot the game at 1-1.

The Gents remain home to host Michigan State starting February 25 as part of a three game series.  Friday’s series opener is set for 4 p.m. at Shehee Stadium.
