ELMHURST, Ill – Laura Kizyte has been tabbed the Mid-Continent Conference Newcomer of the Year for women’s basketball after an impressive opening season in Maroon and White.  The junior transfer averaged 11.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.6 assists.

Kizyte came to Centenary from Weatherford College where she helped the Coyotes win the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference championship and Region V championships.  She made an immediate impact in her Ladies debut, scoring 33 points in the season opener against LeTourneau, a Centenary Division I record.

In Mid-Con games only, Kizyte led all players in steals per game with 2.44 and finished the regular season 10th in assists per game with 3.25.  Her 29.0 percent shooting from three-point range was good enough for 9th in league play.

In just her first season, the Kaunas, Lithuania native ranks fifth all-time in three-pointers made in a career with 46 and needs just five more to take over fourth place.

For season-highs, Kizyte has scored 20 points or more twice, grabbed 13 rebounds against LeTourneau, dished out eight assists versus IUPUI, blocked two shots against Louisiana-Monroe, and has nabbed five steals five times, most recently against Oral Roberts at home.
