Gents Topped by Grambling in Tennis Doubleheader

SHREVEPORT- The Centenary men’s tennis team played host to in-state foe Grambling on Tuesday afternoon at the Southern Hills Tennis Complex. Playing under the 4-1 format, the Gents fell to the Tigers 4-1 in the first dual match of the doubleheader and were unable to regroup, dropping the second decision 5-0.

Grambling took an early lead over the Gents in doubles competition, winning both matches, securing the first points.

In singles action, Arthur Okura came out strong, winning his first match of the day. Competing in No. 4 seat, Okura easily defeated Jairo Anquiera, 6-4, 6-1, but had difficulty during his second contest in the #2 slot.

GSU’s Marcus Ashley and Okura went back and forth during the close affair, but Ashley was able to keep up his intensity in the second set to pull off the victory, 7-6, (6), 6-4.

Josh Pinto also played well in the No. 3 spot, but was overcome by Dellon Lonmer in a hard fought two-set match, 7-6, (5), 6-2.

The Gents are back in action Wednesday, March 13 when they travel to Longview, Texas to take on Letourneau. The first serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
