ELMHURST, Ill – Seniors J.C. Biagi and David Kiefer were tabbed the Mid-Continent Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, as they led the Centenary baseball team to a 3-2 weekly record.  The Gents picked up wins against nationally ranked LSU, as well as Indiana and Arkansas-Little Rock during the stretch.

Biagi also was also selected Louisiana Baseball Player of the Week by the Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association.  The College Place, Wash., native pitched a complete-game two-hitter against then #2/#3 LSU.  Biagi struck out six while holding the Tigers hitless through seven innings and didn’t give up an earned run in the 6-1 victory.

The senior also saw action in the field, playing third base as Centenary hosted the annual Gent Classic.  Biagi hit .385 with three doubles, three RBI, and four runs, with a .615 slugging percentage in the double round robin tournament.

Kiefer earns his first Mid-Con Player of the Week award after batting .526 with a .684 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base percentage.  The senior shortstop from Albuquerque, New Mexico, collected 10 hits and five runs scored.  Two of his 10 RBI were game-winners, a two-run double against LSU and a 10th inning two-out single against UALR.  Although it’s his first conference award this season, Kiefer was named to the Mid-Con All-Tournament team in 2004 and earned Academic All-Conference Honors as well.

The Gents now have three Mid-Con accolades this season.  Junior outfielder Jonathan Colgin earned Player of the Week honors for February 21.  Biagi has now earned three awards for his efforts over the week, including the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Pro-Line Cap Pitcher of the Week.
