Ladies Gymnastics Topples SEMO on Senior Night
Saturday, March 12, 2005

SHREVEPORT—On an emotional night in the Gold Dome where the Centenary Ladies gymnastics team bid farewell to two seniors competing in their final home meet, the Ladies came through with a fitting send-off by downing Southeast Missouri State 192.575 to 191.425. Centenary used a season-high score of 49.300 on the floor exercise to avenge a loss to the Redbirds earlier in the year.

SEMO began the event with a shaky performance on the uneven bars as both of their first two gymnasts fell from the apparatus. The Redbirds were forced to count an 8.050 on the bars and finished the first rotation with a team score of 46.050.

Meanwhile, the Ladies responded well following the senior presentations of Jennie Jackson and Tara Mitchell by posting a 48.000 on the vault behind a third place performance by Sarah Racioppi who garnered a 9.675 to give Centenary the early lead.

The two teams nearly recorded the same score on the balance beam before the Ladies pulled away with three near-perfect floor routines. Freshman Meredith Smith tallied a 9.900 as Centenary’s third competitor on the event before Sarah Racioppi and Kristina Menne each earned a 9.950 to seal the win. All three secured top billing on the exercise as Smith took third place and Racioppi and Menne shared the first place honor.

Menne also turned in top efforts to take first place on the uneven bars with a 9.775 and in the all-around as she finished with a 39.050. Laura Wright placed second on the bars with a run of 9.675 while Menne ranked second on the balance beam with her score of 9.700.

Centenary returns to action on Friday when the Ladies take on the LSU Tigers in Baton Rouge, La., at 7 pm.
