Schmidt Receives Seventh Mid-Con Athlete of the Week Honor

ELMHURST, Ill.- Centenary’s Anja Schmidt was dubbed Mid-Continent Conference Tennis Player of the Week for her exceptional play last week. The talented Gilforn, Germany native registered a pair of victories in the top slot on the road against LeTourneau, keeping her undefeated spring record alive with seven.


Schmidt easily took the Lady Jackets’ No. 1 player in straight sets 6-0, 6-0, and later teamed with doubles partner Heather Kelley for an effortless 8-0 win. Her notable weekend performance helped boost her overall record to 15-3 this season.

This is the seventh time the junior has received the weekly accolade as she was named Mid-Con Player of the Week five times during the 2004 regular season. She was also honored with the 2004 Mid-Con’s Women’s Tennis Player of the Year award and was the co-winner of the Mid-Con Scholar Athlete Award for the 2003-04 season.

Now 1-7 on the season, the Ladies host Louisiana Tech on Tuesday, March 22 at the Southern Hills Tennis Complex.  The first serve is set for 3 p.m.
