Ladies Finish 16th in Rain Shortened Samford Intercollegiate

CALERA, Ala – The Centenary women’s golf team is in 16th place after shooting 356 during the first day of the Third-Annual Applebee's/ Up The Creek Samford Intercollegiate at Timberline Golf Course.  The second day of competition was cancelled because of poor weather.

 

Freshman Chloe’ Mims led the Ladies with an 83 after shooting a team-low 39 on the back nine.  She finished tied for 52nd place.  A stroke behind Mims was newcomer Billie Cook who didn’t seem to have missed a step in her first tournament of the year, finishing the competition tied for 59th with 84.

 

Seniors Repsie Schirmer and Andrea Sanchez, both on the cusp of qualifying for the Mid-Continent Conference Championships, shot 92 and 97 respectively.  Junior Lauren Mills finished out of scoring consideration with 128.

 

Campell won the field of 17 teams with 295 followed by Jacksonville State with 300 and Middle Tennessee State with 302.  In a tough battle for the next positions, South Alabama (311) edged Garnder-Webb (313), Troy (314), Mercer (316), and UAB (318).  The next tier of scores consisted of Eastern Kentucky (322), Nicholls State and Western Kentucky (325 each), Tennessee Tech (327), and Belmont (335).  Rounding out the invitational was host Samford (341), Austin Peay State (348), Centenary (356), and Montevallo (418).
