Ladies Tennis Win Rematch Against Alcorn, 4-3

SHREVEPORT- The Ladies tennis team avenged an earlier season loss to Alcorn State on Friday afternoon beating the Lady Braves 4-3 at the Southern Hills Tennis Complex.  The Ladies came out fighting from the start winning the doubles point while Anja Schmidt, Heather Kelley, and Ashlee Mantooth were victorious in singles play.


The Ladies opened the match by dominating the doubles pairings.  Centenary’s No.1 twosome of Schmidt and Kelley defeated ASU’s Swetha Devaraja and Elana Rood, 8-4 while Christine Majchrowicz and Mantooth took on Alcorn’s No. 2 duo, winning 8-2.


After a slow start in singles, the Ladies came together taking three of the six matches. Schmidt won 6-2, 6-2 playing in the No 1 slot, boosting her spring record to 9-0. Heather Kelley came through for the Ladies with a 6-2, 7-6 (4) win at the No. 3 court, while Mantooth followed earning a difficult 6-1, 2-6, 6-0 win in the No. 5 seat.


The victory boosts the Ladies overall record to 2-8.


Next up for the Ladies is a road trip to Natchitoches, La. to battle Northwestern on Monday with doubles beginning at 3 p.m.
