Thursday, March 31, 2005

SHREVEPORT- The Ladies softball team avenged an earlier season loss to Louisiana-Monroe on Thursday night to keep their seven-game winning streak alive, improving to 17-14 overall. The Ladies took the first game of the doubleheader 3-1 and the second game was called in the bottom of the fifth because of dangerous weather conditions.

In the first game, Centenary jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on Janis Kelley’s two-run double. Freshman Lauren Flowers and sophomore Micah Rhodes added solid hits in inning as well.

The Ladies added another run in the fourth off singles by Lindsay Jones and Natalie Schoppe to push the lead to 3-0.

The Lady Indians (12-31) threatened in the top of the fifth when Heather Williams drew a walk with the bases loaded. Dana Davis ended the inning and ULM's offensive attempt catching Nicole Bethurum’s infield pop-up.

Jessica Ivins pitched seven strong innings, allowing three hits and no earned runs, while striking out six ULM batters.

The Ladies take the weekend off and return to the Centenary Softball Complex on April 5th to battle Southeastern Louisiana. The twinbill action will begin at 1 p.m.
