BOSSIER CITY, La – The Centenary men’s golf team shot a 893 to edge out Sam Houston State by two strokes for second place of the Hal Sutton Intercollegiate at the Golf Club at StoneBridge.  David Viviano won the tournament, shooting 214 in the three round event.

 

Viviano piggybacked the tournament’s lowest round of 67 on Monday with a 71, the only player to shoot below par in the third round.  Jason Jenkins, Preston Smith, and Derek Busby of Louisiana tech finished second through fourth with scores of 215, 217, and 219 respectively.

 

La. Tech won the Intercollegiate with a 870, 22 strokes better than the second place Gents.  Windy and rainy conditions forced the Bulldogs to shoot their only team round over 300 with a 301.

 

Mackey Miles tied for ninth with 224, while Brett Kaufman tied for 21st with 230 followed right behind by John Kizer in 25th with 231.  Brian Grone shot a 246 to finish 43rd while Jay Binderim shot a 251 to finish 44th playing as an individual.

 

Following Louisiana Tech (870), Centenary (893), and Sam Houston State (895), were Texas State (903), Nicholls State (914), Jackson State (924), Western Kentucky (933), and Idaho State (938).  McNeese State had to withdraw from team competition after failing to complete the second round.
