Anja Schmidt

VALPARAISO, Ind.- The Ladies’ tennis team performed well during the first day of competition at the Mid-Continent Conference cluster hosted by Valparaiso at the Chesterton High School. Continuing her consistency on the court, Anja Schmidt picked up her 10th straight victory at No. 1 singles as the Ladies dropped a 6-1 decision late Friday afternoon.

Centenary’s No. 1 duo of Schmidt and Heather Kelley downed Robbie Barnett and Edyta Urban 8-3, but Chicago State was still able to grab the doubles point by defeating Centenary's No. 2 and No.  3 pairings.

In singles, Schmidt was Centenary’s lone victor at the top slot. Heather Kelley posted a 7-5, 6-1 hard-fought loss while Christine Majchrowicz registered a quick No. 2 match, going under 6-0, 6-1.

Jennifer Majchrowicz battled hard against Cougars’ Cristina Vlase, but came up short 7-5, 6-3 at the fifth spot.

Centenary (2-10, 0-1) continues conference action tomorrow taking on Oakland at 1:00 p.m.
