MACOMB, Ill.- Centenary softball split the second conference doubleheader with Western Illinois, out hitting the opposition in the first game for the 8-3 win before dropping the nightcap 4-3 because of a defensive miscue in the seventh at the Mary Ellen McKee Stadium.

In the first contest of the afternoon, Centenary’s sparkling offense saw six batters register hits as Megan Hall knocked in her seventh double of the season.

Centenary pushed in their first run when Lauren Flowers scored on a wild pitch in the first and continued to knock in runs in the second when Hall blasted a three-run RBI double to left center to make the score 4-1.

The Ladies posted another two runs in the fourth and seventh to pick up their twentieth win of the season.

Right-handed hurler Jessica Ivins (13-8) picked up her fourth conference win striking out five and allowing two earned runs on six hits.

During the second game, WIU (14-17, 5-3) was able to score in the bottom of the seventh to rally from a 3-2 deficit.

Amber Lessen led off the bottom of the seventh with a double down the left field line followed by Brin Zeller’s intentional walk. Melissa Dempsky reached on a perfectly laid bunt as Lessen scored the game-winning run off an error by Centenary’s catcher.

Next up for the Ladies (20-17, -6-2) is a Wednesday night game in Ruston, La. against Louisiana Tech. The first pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
