SHREVEPORT - The Centenary baseball team’s offense ignited for 20 runs in the second game of a doubleheader with Mid-Continent Conference foe Oakland, claiming a 3-1 series victory.  The Gents won 9-6 and 20-3 en route to evening their season record to .500.

David Kiefer was one of three Gents (14-14, 3-1 Mid-Con) to hit 4-for-5 in the second victory, driving in five runs and scoring four times.  The senior shortstop became only the sixth Centenary player to hit two triples in one game.  Kiefer hit back-to-back three-baggers in the first and second innings.

Also going 4-for-5 five were Justin Darr and Jared Vincent.  Darr drove in five runs and scored three times, while Vincent collected four RBI and hit his first homerun of the season.

Centerfielder Tim Ryan also hit his first homerun of the year, four batters after Vincent.  Ryan went 3-for-5, scoring twice and driving in a pair.

Picking up the win in the second game was Will Kaage (3-2).  The sophomore hurler tossed a seven-inning, complete game for his third win of the year.  Kaage gave up 11 hits to yield three runs, all in the final inning.

Centenary picked up the first victory behind a solid outing by freshman Matt Clark (2-1).  The southpaw threw six and a third innings, allowing five runs on six hits, fanning three.

Kiefer reached base all five times at the plate in the first contest, going 2-for-2 with a walk and was hit by pitches twice.  For both games, he reached on eight consecutive appearances and nine of his final ten to increase his Mid-Con leading on base percentage to .534.

The Gents take a weekend off of Mid-Con action to host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for a three game series this weekend.  Saturday’s doubleheader begins at 12 noon.
