TULSA, Okla.- The 2005 Ladies tennis team finished their season strong this weekend at the Mid-Continent Conference Cluster hosted by Oral Roberts. Centenary placed sixth overall with Christine Majchrowicz and Anja Schmidt posting a perfect 5-0 mark in singles play at the ORU Tennis Courts. The Ladies ended the 2005 season with a 5-14 overall record and went 3-5 in league play.

Schmidt remained untouchable keeping her undefeated spring play record alive with five wins in the top slot, boosting her overall spring record to 17-0. Her consistency on the court has placed her in the Maroon and White history book. Her sophomore record of 23-2 resulted in a .920 winning percentage, which is the best single season effort of all-time. She also holds the highest career winning percentage of .864.

This season she has posted an 8-0 record against Mid-Con opponents and finished with a team-best 25-3 singles mark, including a 13-8 dual record. The 5’7'' junior from Gilforn, Germany, will finish her three-year career at Centenary ranking second in all-time singles wins with 25 single-season victories in 2004-05, right behind Jasmina Tonejc’s 1988-89 record of 26.

Centenary compiled a 2-3 mark during the three-days of competition. The Ladies opened conference play with a 4-2 loss to Oral Roberts. The Golden Eagles were able to slide past the Ladies by taking the doubles point as Heather Kelley, Schmidt, and C. Majchrowicz all tallied victories in singles play. Later in the afternoon the Ladies notched a 5-2 victory over Western Illinois when Ashlee Mantooth clinched the match in the fourth position by coming from behind to pull out the tie-breaker 1-6, 6-4, 10-7.

The Ladies spilt on Saturday taking a match from UMKC 4-3 before falling to IUPUI, 5-2. Centenary earned the sixth-place finish, dropping a close 4-3 match to Southern Utah on Sunday.

IUPUI (13-8, 7-1) will look to three-peat as Mid-Con Tournament champions as they take on SUU (11-5, 6-2) in the first round of the Mid-Con tournament Friday in Valparaiso, Indiana. Also participating in the tournament will be regular-season champ Valparaiso (13-4, 8-0) and fourth-seed Oral Roberts (8-14, 5-3). The winners of Friday’s matches will then compete on Saturday for the opportunity to play in the NCAA tournament.
