Kaufman Finishes Fourth, Gents Seventh at Mid-Con Golf Championships

MACOMB, Ill – Centenary’s Brett Kaufman capped off his collegiate career by earning First Team All-Mid-Continent Conference Honors for finishing fourth at the Conference Championships.  The senior shot 222 to finish six strokes behind the leader.  As a team, the Gents finished seventh with 927, shooting rounds of 314, 301, and 312.


Kaufman was tied for second after two rounds going into the final day of play with rounds of 75 and 72.  He shot another 75 on the final 18 holes to edge the competition for fourth.


David Viviano (231) finished 21st with rounds of 81, 73, and 77, followed closely behind by Brian Grone (234) in 23rd place with 77, 77, 80.  John Kizer (243) tied for 35th with rounds of 84, 79, and 80 and Mackey Miles (248) 37th with 81, 83, 84.


Chloe’ Mims shot rounds of 85, 86, and 84, for a 255 to finish in 15th place.  Mims played as an individual as the Ladies did not qualify for team competition.


Oakland’s Brian Stuard defeated Southern Utah’s Kenny Ebalo in a playoff to earn Player of the Year.  Ebalo shot a 69 in the last round to catch up to Stuard at 216.


Winning the Mid-Con Championships was IUPUI with 902.  They held off three teams by three strokes, as each squad was one stroke of off the next.  Southern Utah finished second with 905, Western Illinois third with 906, and UMKC fourth with 907.  Oral Roberts (911), Oakland (912), Centenary (927), and Chicago State (1028) rounded out the men’s competition.


Oral Roberts shot 939 to win the women’s draw by 50 strokes.  The Golden Eagles swept the Mid-Con honors, earning four of five First Team nods, Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, and Newcomer of the Year.
