SHREVEPORT – The Centenary women’s soccer team ended their 2005 season with a 4-0 loss at home to Mid-Continent Conference foe Oakland.  The match was the final game of the careers of seniors Luiza Pegado and Sam Savage.

Oakland (8-7-1, 4-2-0 Mid-Con) controlled the tempo of the first half, keeping the Ladies on their heels and outshooting them 14-0.  The Golden Grizzlies would manage just one goal going into halftime, a Kristi Swaving score in the 13th minute off of teammate Jill Horan’s rebound.

The Golden Grizzlies would increase the pressure in the second half, firing 20 shots on the Ladies defense.  Playing in the second half, reserve keeper Sarah Balkey picked up 10 saves, the first double-figure saves match of her career.

Oakland would add goals in the 50th, 52nd, and 63rd minutes to pull away from the Ladies.  Centenary (6-12-1, 1-5-0 Mid-Con) managed six shots on the OU defense, three on goal.  Freshman Lauren Stanley led the Ladies with two shots.

With the 2005 season in the books, the Ladies will now look ahead to a promising 2006 season.  Losing just two seniors, Centenary will return 10 starters and injured co-captain Joanna Bunn, a junior defender who went down with a knee injury in the Ladies’ season opener.  Along with the projected incoming class, the Maroon and White should contend for a Mid-Con playoff berth and championship.
