MACOMB, Ill.—The Centenary volleyball team played its first match in a week on Friday night after a long bus trip to face Mid-Con opponent Western Illinois. The Westerwinds did not make the journey a worthwhile one for the Ladies as the host team dropped the maroon and white in three straight games (30-12, 30-23, 30-26).

Centenary (10-20, 0-9 Mid-Con) improved as the match went on, but unfortunately the Ladies ran out of time. After starting the night by hitting -.051 in the opening game, Centenary drastically enhanced its offensive prowess by notching hitting percentages of .206 and .256 in games two and three.

Western Illinois (14-10, 8-2 Mid-Con) would hold off the Ladies run with the powerful offensive attack of Ashley Baker and Amy Sauerwein. The duo combined for 24 kills on the evening and each hit over .450 in the victory. The Westerwinds finished the match overall with a sizzling .440 percentage compared to just .134 for Centenary. WIU swung away at the net as the Ladies managed only a single total team block on the evening.

Danielle Bochat recorded 12 kills to lead Centenary while committing only three errors. Stephanie Scanlan tallied seven kills, five assists, and two aces while Lindsay Bekelja finished with 25 assists in the loss.

The Ladies will travel overnight to Kansas City, Mo., to finish out the season series with UMKC at 7 p.m. on Saturday. The Kangaroos took the first meeting between the teams this season in Shreveport in five games.
