KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The Centenary volleyball team wrapped up its two-game Mid-Con road trip with a loss to UMKC on Saturday evening. Vanessa Portella led the Kangaroos to a solid 3-0 win (30-19, 30-21, 30-24) by posting 22 kills while committing only two errors in 35 attempts.

Centenary (10-21, 0-10 Mid-Con) slowly solved the UMKC attack and for the second straight night improved steadily as the match went on. However, the strong hitting of Portella along with Lauren Starks (10 kills), and 10 team services aces allowed the home team to dispose of the Ladies before the maroon and white could take a game.

UMKC (7-18, 5-6 Mid-Con) tallied only one block in the victory, but hit well posting a kill percentage of .305 against Centenary. Kristy Waltemeyer handed out 28 assists for the Kangaroos and Mandy Tipton recorded 10 digs to lead the blue and gold defensively.

Freshman Danielle Bochat continued her bid for a spot on the Mid-Con Newcomer team by tallying a team-high 16 kills in the loss for the Ladies. Lili Williams notched a match-high 12 digs in the match while Lindsay Bekelja added 30 assists.

Centenary will next host Louisiana-Monroe and Grambling State in a pair of matches in the Gold Dome on Tuesday. The Ladies will face off against ULM at 5 p.m. before battling the Tigers for the third time this season at 7 p.m.
