SHREVEPORT – The Centenary women’s golf team has signed Mary Kate Byrne to a National Letter of Intent, Ladies head coach Ken Dupree announced today.  The Natchez, Miss., native will add skill and depth to a young Centenary squad.

“Mary Kate is a great fit to the squad we have now,” Coach Dupree said.  “She adds depth to our young squad which is on the upswing.  She’s a very hard worker and has the qualities of an excellent leader, on and off the course.”

A proven winner on the links, Byrne won both the Natchez Girls City Junior Championship and the Ladies City Championship in the summer of 2004.  This last summer, she was the top finisher in the Big I tournament played at the Mississippi State University Golf Course in Starkville, Miss.

Byrne’s academic resume is just as impressive, as she is ranked third in her class with a 4.3 GPA.  She is a member of the National Honor Society, Honor Roll, is an All American Scholar, and the president of the Key Club, along with many other clubs and organizations.

Centenary College is an NCAA member of the Mid-Continent Conference.  Founded in 1825 and located in Shreveport, La., with an enrollment of 905, it is the smallest Division I school in the nation and the oldest liberal arts college west of the Mississippi River.
