Xavier Burnette

ELMHURST, Ill.—The Mid-Continent Conference announced today that Centenary’s Xavier Burnette has been selected as the Mid-Con Player of the Week for his efforts in leading the Gents to a 79-70 win over Birmingham-Southern. The junior transfer from Cowley County JC dropped 20 points on the Panthers in securing the first win over a Division I opponent for new Centenary coach Rob Flaska.

Burnette (Topeka, Kan.) connected on 3-of-4 trifectas in the first half and scored 10 of Centenary’s final 14 points before the break to provide the Gents with all the breathing room it would need in defeating BSC. The 6’2” guard also used his driving ability to get to the line where he converted on 11-of-14 attempts on the evening. Burnette’s statline also included two steals, two rebounds, and an assist.

Burnette ranks third in the Mid-Con with a .533 three-point field goal percentage. After leading the Gents in scoring the last two games (13 points at Stephen F. Austin), he is now third on the team in scoring at 8.3 ppg to go with 2.6 assists per contest.
