Ladies Overpowered by Western Illinois 83-37 in Mid-Con Opener

MACOMB, Ill. – The Centenary women’s basketball team dropped their Mid-Continent Conference opener 83-37 on the road at Western Illinois.  The Westerwinds controlled the game from the start, jumping to an 11-0 lead before the Ladies could put their first point on the board eight minutes into the half.  The loss is the worst ever for the Ladies in Mid-Con play and the largest margin of defeat since falling to Wisconsin-Green Bay 97-48 in the 2003-04 season.

 

Seniors Van’esha Brabson on Laura Kizyte led the Ladies with 11 points each.  Freshman Cierra Bush grabbed a game-high eight rebounds off the bench.

 

Centenary (1-11, 0-1 Mid-Con) shot just 26.5 percent from the floor, including only 18.5 in the first half.  WIU converted 54.4 percent on their field goals, including 61.5 percent from beyond the arc.

 

Western Illinois (9-2, 1-0 Mid-Con) also controlled the boards, outrebounding the Ladies 44-25.

 

Four WIU players scored in double figures, led by Laura Reeves with 23.

 

The Ladies return home to host Valparaiso on Wednesday, January 4 at 7 p.m. in the Gold Dome.
